Sri Lankan Navy on Thursday apprehended seventeen Indian fishermen when they were fishing in international waters 13 nautical miles east of Nagercoil. The Sri Lankan Navy also detained their two fishing boats. AIr correspondent reports that Sri Lankan Navy on Thursday apprehended seventeen more Indian fishermen from Karaikal and detained two fishing boats. <br/><br/>The fishermen have been taken to Talaimannar for questioning according to local fishermen sources. Earlier Sri Lankan navy had arrested four fishermen from Pudukottai district and detained their one fishing boat. Fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Puduchery had resumed fishing after 61 days fishing ban in eastern coast for fish species propagation last week. <br/><br/>Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapady K Palanisamy wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urging to intervene and secure the release of 20 fishermen lodged in Lankan jail and 137 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.
