The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended eight Indian fishermen from Pudukottai district in Tamil Nadu for allegedly fishing in Lankan waters last night. They also detained two of the fishing boats. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the Sri Lankan Navy has arrested fifty fishermen from Tamil Nadu since they resumed fishing after end of fishing ban. This has created tension in fishermen hamlets of Nagapattinam Rameswaram and Pamban. Local fishermen are urging the government to secure the release of fellow fishermen languishing in Lankan Jail. They also urge immediate release of 143 fishing boats detained by Lanka. <br/><br/>The boats have suffered heavy damages due to prolonged detention and onslaught of monsoon according to Chief Minister Edapady Palanisamy. He had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging to take the matter with Lankan government wnd ensure immediate release of fishermen and fishing boats.
