In Sri Lanka, the leaked phone conversation of MP and former state minister Ranjan Ramanayake has created a major controversy with government MPs demanding probe into the whole matter. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that the Chief Justice of Supreme court should initiate action regarding the serious breach of confidence in the judiciary following the revelations made in the phone recordings.
''
'' Mr. Ramanayake is stated to be openly discussing impending judgments and ongoing investigation with judges and police investigating officers. When asked as to what the government intends to do about it, the Prime Minister said that a commission should be appointed to look into it. He said that the issue cannot be confined to Ranjan Ramanayake only as the previous government was entangled in it.
''
''
''Mr. Rajapaksa said the conversations are an attack on the judiciary and people can raise questions about judgments. The High Court Judges association and Bar association has also urged the Chief Justice to initiate an immediate investigation into the telephone conversations that transpired allegedly between certain judges and MP. The MP was arrested last week and several recordings of the conversations were seized from his house which has been selectively leaked. CID has already begun investigations into the case.
