Sri Lankan Govt. denies charges of eliminating surrendering LTTE leaders

Sri Lankan Government has denied the charge of the former Sri Lankan Army Chief Sarath Fonseka that Sri Lankan forces eliminated surrendering Tiger leaders on the orders of the defence secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa who had instructed that all LTTE leaders must be killed. In an interview with a local weekly Sunday Leader General Fonseka has contended that he had no information communicated to him in the final days of the war that three key LTTE leaders had opted to surrender to the military. Fonseka told the weekly that he later learnt about what exactly had taken place as a result of journalists who had been embedded at the time with forces in the battle field.At a hurriedly convened news conference in Colombo, the Government categorically denied the charge and said that it was examining the contents of the interview for possible legal action.
