Sri Lankan government has approved few key decisions to enhance cultural ties with India including language promotion and Buddhist heritage. The decisions approved by cabinet include establishing a Sinhala language teaching cell at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), setting up of cultural centre and building a Buddhist Dagoba at Buddhist temple in New Delhi.<br/><br/>Addressing media in Colombo today, cabinet spokesman Gayantha Karunatilake said, these proposals will be discussed during ongoing visit of country's foreign minister Ravi Karunanayke to India. The language cell at JNU will provide opportunity for SAARC students to study Sinhala language and literature, being used by majority Buddhists in Sri Lanka. <br/><br/>Sri Lanka will seek land allotment for setting up cultural centre and Buddhist Dagoba. The latter will facilitate Buddhist pilgrims from Sri Lanka to perform rituals conveniently. India and Sri Lanka share centuries old cultural heritage and the recent visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was focused on deepening Buddhist ties between the two neighbours.
