Sri Lankan foreign minister Tilak Marapana will reach New Delhi today on a three-day visit to India. He is being accompanied by Sri Lankan Foreign secretary Prasad Kariyawasam and other senior officials. This will be the maiden overseas trip for Sri Lankan minister after taking over as foreign minister last month. <br/><br/>A statement by Sri Lankan government said the minister will hold discussions on bilateral issues with External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj for further strengthening the Indo-Sri Lanka relationship. Mr. Marapana will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow. Sri Lanka's relations with India has strengthened in recent years and both countries signed an MOU for cooperation in economic projects this year. <br/><br/><br/>The MOU envisages investment by Indian companies for infrastructure development in Sri Lanka and fast tracking its implementation may be discussed during the visit. Progress on new constitution making and reconciliation efforts with ethnic minorities will be another important area for discussion.
