The US singer Akon will not be granted a visa to visit Sri Lanka for a concert after Buddhist monks and many Sri Lankans took offence at one of his videos and an unidentified group of people attacked the premises of a media group sponsoring the event.The Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS), Lakshman Hulugulle told a news conference that a group has taken responsibility for the attack on the media group and the police are investigating the incident. He, however strongly denied government involvement in the attack.According to reports group of monks lobbied with the government to stop the star's planned visit because of a music video which featured scantily clad women dancing around a pool in front of a Buddha statue.To assuage Buddhist sensitivities, Sri Lanka's foreign ministry said that although till now was no application for a visa by Akon or his entourage, but the government had taken a decision not to allow him into the country to perform at the concert scheduled for April 24.In a separate development the JS Tissanayagam , the Tamil journalist from Sri Lanka sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on various charges has been named as the foreign journalist of the year at the British Press Awards in London.The awarded Tamil journalist J S Tissainaygam was granted bail pending appeal by the Appeal Courts in January this year.
