Sri Lanka today unveiled a new Peace Education and Reconciliation Unit (PERU) to create awareness on reconciliation among children. Former President Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Chairperson of Office for National Unity and Reconciliation told media that the programme has got excellent response from teachers and community members and will be instrumental in creating harmony amongst ethnic groups. <br/><br/>She said that PERU will be coordinated by a team consisting of a member from Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim community. The former President also revealed that a committee has been set up to look into the textbook syllabus and revise elements which are against minority community. She said that such changes were brought up during her regime but were reintroduced during the previous regime of Mahinda Rajapakse.
