Sri Lankans go to the polls on Tuesday to elect a new President. Election officials say all arrangements are in place to ensure a free and fair poll. Nearly one hundred thousand officers have been deployed for the elections duties and they will report to respective polling centres from Monday. Over 14.8 million voters are eligible to vote. Elections Commissioner Dayananda Disshnayake said people can cast their votes at the respective polling booths even without the official poll card by officially proving their identity. For this purpose, voters can produce national identity cards, passports, driving license, pensioners’ ID cards or any other valid document.Polling will begin at 7’0 clock on Tuesday and will end at 4.00 pm. The elections commissioner said counting of votes will begin on Tuesday night and the final results.
