Seven more boats with 24 Indian fishermen have been apprehended and handed over to local police at Elavalai police station, adjacent to Karainagar , on Wednesday evening around 8 pm once again in the Jaffna district . According to reports , these fishermen were reportedly engaging in fishing in the Madagal sea close to Kankasanturai. These 24 Indian fishermen will be presented before the Malakkam magistrate later in the day today. The Consul General at Jaffna has been given access to them. On Tuesday, 112 Indian fishermen along with 18 trawlers had been apprehended by the fishermen of Jaffna, 15-20 kms off Point Pedro and then later handed over to the police there. They have been remanded to judicial custody by a Court in Jaffna. Meanwhile, hectic diplomatic efforts are on in Colombo to secure the early release of the Indian fishermen under judicial custody.
