Sri Lanka today stressing on the need of maritime security, acknowledged the cooperation of the Indian and Australian Navy, in helping them gather intelligence from the Indian Ocean to curb human trafficking in the region. Speaking to the media Sri Lankan Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe said that ‘the Australian Navy and the Indian Navy are cooperating with our navy to arrest suspects who are engaged in human trafficking, including former LTTE cadres’. The Commander emphasized that it is a tough job to put a complete stop to human trafficking because asylum seekers now fled to other countries and then used boats to flee to their destination. Sri Lankan Navy had just concluded their diamond jubilee celebrations earlier this month, which was attended amongst others by the Indian and the Australian Navy Commanders as well.
