Sri Lanka releases all 40 Indian fishermen in its custody ahead of I-Day

Sri Lanka today released all 40 Indian fishermen in its custody ahead of Independence Day as a goodwill gesture.<br/><br/>According to Indian Consulate General's office in Jaffna, the fishermen were released by Mannar and Point Pedro courts on the advice of Sri Lanka's Attorney General. The fishermen were caught by Sri Lankan Navy on charges of trespassing into Sri Lankan waters in June. The release comes after Indian High Commission took up the case for their early release with Sri Lankan government.<br/><br/>The fishermen will be repatriated at the International Maritime Border in a day or two with the exchange of fishermen by Sri Lanka Navy and Indian Coast Guard. India is also releasing 5 Sri Lankan fishermen.<br/><br/>With this release, there are no more Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody now.
