The Sri Lankan President and the Prime Minister have reiterated their stand of not including foreign judges in transitional judicial process. This comes within hours of a UNHRC report which called for setting up hybrid court to probe war crimes during the decades long ethnic conflict. <br/><br/>Speaking at a meeting of his Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), President Maithripala Sirisena said, he will never bring foreign judges to the country. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremsinghe said, in a tweet, that a hybrid court is certainly not practical for Sri Lanka as independence of judiciary is no longer an issue.<br/><br/>On the other hand, Tamil political leadership has welcomed the UNHRC recommendation, saying the systematic failure to make progress on emblematic cases in regular courts highlights the need for international participation in war crime courts. The UNHRC report had called for the need to adopt legislation establishing a hybrid court. Sri Lanka has been maintaining that its law does not permit foreign judges in local court.
