In Sri Lanka, campaigning for Presidential election scheduled for Saturday has intensified with candidates making final efforts to woo the voters. Sri Lanka People's Party (SLPP) Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa has asserted that groups frustrated before the defeat are conspiring to carry out baseless mudslinging propaganda and urged people to refrain from being misguided.
''
''Addressing an election meeting yesterday, Mr Rajapaksa said that while he is educating the public on their policies, security and economy, some are mudslinging despite not achieving anything while in power for five years. He reiterated that he had revoked his dual citizenship, dispelling rumors on the contrary.
''
''Meanwhile, Minister Sajith Premadasa said although he studied both in England and in the USA, he never withdrew from his Sri Lankan citizenship. He asserted an original Sri Lankan will become the President of Sri Lanka on 16th of November, adding he does not need tuition from anyone on citizenship as he is an original Sri Lankan. Mr Premadasa said that everything included in his manifesto will be carried out for the people.
''
''In related development, two persons have been arrested over distributing derogatory leaflets against SLPP candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
''
''Reportedly, one of the arrestees is a coordinating secretary employed under a Non-Cabinet Minister and supporter of Mr Premadasa.
