<span style="color: #222222;">In Sri Lanka, postal voting for upcoming parliamentary elections began today even as there is growing concern over COVID cases detected from a rehabilitation center over past few days.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The postal voting will continue till 21st of this month while polling for 225 member parliament is scheduled for 5th of next month.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Over seven lakh state sector workers are eligible for postal votes. Earlier, the voting was suspended in one division because of rising number of COVID cases there.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Army commander and head of COVID task force Lt Gen. Shavendra Silva said today that the current situation can cause new cases to emerge from various parts of the country in the coming days.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">He said a total of 492 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 so far from the treatment and rehabilitation Centre in&nbsp;Kandakadu.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">This include 16 close contacts of the instructors and inmates at the Centre.&nbsp;</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The commander said, immediate measures to impose quarantine and conduct contact tracing have enabled them to contain the spread of the virus.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Election commission will meet on Wednesday to take stock of the situation though it has ruled out postponement of elections.</span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Sri Lanka was coming out of the COVID situation but the sudden surge in cases has forced government to shut down schools this week.</span><br />'' &nbsp;<br />
