Sri Lanka police chief, former defence secretary further remanded till next week

<span style="color: #222222;">Sri Lanka's police chief and former defence secretary have been further remanded till next week after they were arrested yesterday when they were admitted in hospitals. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">The magistrate had earlier remanded them till today morning as they remained in hospital for treatment. Both were arrested on charges of negligence to prevent Easter Sunday attacks which killed over 250 people including 45 foreigners. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Hemasiri Fenando was removed from the post of defence secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jaysundara was sent on compulsory leave after the April 21 attacks. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Earlier, both were summoned to appear before the CID yesterday but failed to appear before it citing health reasons. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Country's Attorney General yesterday wrote to the acting IGP urging him to bring charges against both saying there is sufficient information to prove negligence of official duties. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">His letter said the two officials should be brought before a magistrate for their criminal negligence which amounts to what is known under international law to be grave crimes against humanity.</span>
