In Sri Lanka, police have fired tear gas at University students in Colombo today when they were protesting against a private medical university. <br/><br/>More than 5,000 university students defied an official ban on the protest and marched to a city park. Police had to use tear gas to disperse them and help ease road blockade. <br/><br/>The issue has sparked months of demonstrations in the island nation, with doctors and students urging the government to shut down the private South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine, country's only private medical college.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) unions have informed that they will re- commence halted strike action next week regarding the Trincomalee Oil tank farm. The Unions convener said they are not in agreement with the conditions of the recent Memorandum of Understanding regarding the oil tanks with an Indian company. <br/><br/>The Unions had held a strike last month and halted it on Prime minister's reported promise of consulting them before finalizing the deal.
