Sri Lanka Navy today handed over 40 Indian fishermen to the Indian Coast Guard at the International Maritime Boundary after the government had decided to set them free earlier this week.
According to a senior official of the Indian Consulate General’s Office in Jaffna, the fishermen were taken on a Sri Lanka Navy ship this morning from Kankesanthurai harbour to be handed over to Indian authorities mid sea.
AIR Colombo correspondent reports that the fishermen will reach Rameshwaram by this evening.
