Sri Lanka Navy has arrested eight Indian fishermen along with a boat for poaching in Sri Lankan waters last night. <br/><br/>A navy spokesman said the arrest was made off Mannar basin and the fishermen will be handed over to the Fisheries Department in Mannar for onward legal action. <br/><br/>Five other fishermen were arrested last Thursday on similar charges. <br/><br/>With the latest arrests, the total number of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody has gone up to 55. <br/><br/>The arrests came few days after the meeting of Joint Working group (JWG) to resolve the fishing issue was held in New Delhi on Saturday. <br/><br/>Both sides had expressed satisfaction over progress in resolving the issue. <br/><br/>India had reiterated the release of remaining Indian fishing vessels in Sri Lankan custody. <br/><br/>While Sri Lanka has been releasing Indian fishermen regularly on humanitarian grounds, the boats are mostly retained on long custody.
