In Tamil Nadu, Sri Lanka Navy arrested five Indian fishermen off the Neduntheevu coast early this morning. Their fishing boat has also been impounded. The fishermen have been remanded in the Kankesanthurai camp, pending judicial procedures. <br/> '<br/><br/>Earlier this month, eight Indian fishermen were arrested off the Neduntheevu coast. In another incident, five Indian fishermen were apprehended near the Thalaimannar coast. With the latest arrests, the total number of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody has gone up to 64. <br/> <br/><br/>India has been repeatedly requesting the Sri Lankan authorities to release the fishermen and their boats since the impounding of boats will inevitably lead to loss of livelihood to many of the fishermen folk. Over 100 fishing boats are in Sri Lankan custody for past couple of years.
