Sri Lanka must investigate human rights violations : US

Washington says, Sri Lanka must investigate the human rights violations committed at the fag end of the war with LTTE and bring those responsible for it to justice. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake told reporters in the US capital that the very troubling incidents that were reported in Channel 4 and other documentaries on these violations got a lot of attention around the world, including in the United States. When Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in Chennai last week they both agreed that they have concerns about the situation in Sri Lanka. He said both felt the need for greater progress towards reconciliation there. Blake said Colombo should redouble efforts to reach an agreement in their dialogue with the Tamil National Alliance on all the key issues of concern to Tamils inside Sri Lanka. Blake also stressed on the need to finish the resettlement process with about 12,000 peoples still in camps. He said Washington hopes that there's going to be greater progress towards reconciliation.
