In Sri Lanka, a Mood of the Nation poll has found that the economic confidence has remained stagnant for the last 4 months.
''The poll was conducted in early February 2023 by Verité Research, a Colombo-based think tank among a sample of 1,000 respondents. It found that economic confidence was a negative -78, slightly better than June 2022 levels.
''The survey found that only 0.3 percent had rated the economic conditions as excellent, while 6.0 percent rated it as good and 6.3 percent had rated it as getting better.
''
''However only 4 percent of the respondents expressed satisfaction with the way Sri Lanka is faring currently.
''
''The island nation has witnessed its worst ever economic crisis since its independence in 1948 as the economy tanked over the last year. Sri Lanka managed to stay afloat with India's assistance of 4 billion US Dollars and hopes to unlock the IMF's credit facility.
''
''Sri Lanka has tried to implement a plethora of steps in line with IMF's staff level agreement which includes raising of income tax rates and utility charges. Several trade unions have been protesting against the policies as the measures have reduced the disposable income in the hands of the people with inflation still at 54percent.
