The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has urged the Sri Lankan Government to immediately reveal its position on various statements currently circulating about the postponement of local government and provincial council elections. <br/><br/>It said in a statement today that not only IFJ, but also many other organizations that have been struggling for democracy in this country will stand against any action which may harm the process of free and fair elections. <br/><br/>The statement comes in wake of postponement of local body elections for the past two years. The cabinet also decided recently to bring an amendment to postpone the provincial council elections, due in three provinces this year. <br/><br/>The latest proposal has created a division within the government with one section opposing the postponement.
