Sri Lanka has said that it is on right path of reconciliation with minority ethnic groups and addressing of war crimes, after being hounded by three decades of LTTE conflict. <br/><br/>Foreign minister Mangala Samarweera told a group of foreign journalists last evening that his country will come up with independent, credible and acceptable mechanism to all stakeholders to address the issue of war crimes.<br/><br/>He said that as a first step, the office of missing persons (OMP) will be gazetted soon and will initially function under Prime Minister's office. <br/><br/>The legislation for OMP was passed last year but its implementation was delayed owing to a technicality. A group of people have been protesting in northern province to demand tracing of their relatives who went missing during the war or soon after it.<br/><br/>The foreign minister asserted that his country has enough of violence in the past and it should ensure enough checks and balances to avoid any such tragedy in future. Mr. Samarweera said that new constitution making process is the most potent weapon to address such concerns. <br/><br/>He expressed hopes that the government will be able to build consensus for passing the constitution through a two-thirds majority in Parliament and creating awareness for proposed referendum. <br/><br/>The minister said that though the whole process has not moved as fast as would have liked it to be but added that there will be no U-turns.
