Sri Lanka investigates incident involving staff member of Swiss Embassy

<span style="color: #222222;">Sri Lankan government has said it has launched an investigation into an incident involving a local staff member of the Swiss Embassy in Colombo. Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry today said that the investigation is being carried by the police and Criminal Investigations Department (CID). The development came as a local employee of the Swiss Embassy was forcibly abducted and threatened by unknown people in what the Swiss Foreign Ministry termed a "serious and unacceptable attack". Switzerland had summoned the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Switzerland to the Foreign Ministry in Bern to discuss the incident. </span><br />'' <br />'' <span style="color: #222222;">Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka had also called on Sri Lanka's new Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena yesterday. According to reports,  the woman employee was kidnapped on Monday and questioned for two hours before being released. The incident was in connection with a CID inspector who fled to Switzerland due to death threats. The inspector was investigating high-profile corruption and criminal cases related to newly-elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The CID official had left Sri Lanka on Sunday and has requested asylum in Switzerland. </span><br />'' <span style="color: #222222;"> </span><br />
