In a bid to strengthen bilateral relations, Sri Lanka and India are intensifying their efforts to expand maritime and air services between the two nations. Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Gopal Baglay, held a meeting with Sri Lanka's Ports, Shipping, and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and highlighted the successful completion of 100 flights between Chennai and Jaffna by Alliance Air. He added that given the demand for travel in the sector, plans are underway to increase the number of flight operations between the two cities. He also said that the request of Sri Lankan government for a concessional loan to extend the runway at Palaly Airport is under consideration.<br />'' <br />'' The Minister expressed interest in extending the flights to Ratmalana Airport and requested the Indian High Commissioner to explore the possibility. He emphasized Sri Lanka's readiness to receive international standard passenger ships from any Indian port. He said that this would benefit low-income Sri Lankans undertaking pilgrimages to places in India like Bodhgaya.<br />'' <br />'' The expansion of maritime and air services between Sri Lanka and India has a positive impact not only on bilateral ties but also in enhancing travel opportunities and cultural exchanges for both nations.
