Sri Lanka increases fuel quota for vehicles

<span style="color: #222222;">The existing fuel quotas for vehicles have been increased for the New Year festive season in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka's power minister Kanchana Wijesekara tweeted that the quota hikes will come into effect from midnight tonight.<br />''<br />''The increase in the fuel quota has been done across the board by at least 50 percent.<br />''<br />''The proposal has been made to increase three-wheel quotas from 5L to 8L, motorcycles from 4L to 7L, busses from 40L to 60L, cars from 20L to 30L, land vehicles from 15L to 25L, lorries from 50L to 75L, quadric cycle from 4L to 6L, special purpose vehicles from 20L to 30L and vans from 20L to 30L.<br />''<br />''Quota system using QR codes was started last year as a means to prevent hording of fuel as Sri Lanka faced short supplies of essentials. India had extended a credit line of 1 billion dollars for fuel alone as part of the humanitarian assistance of 4 billion dollars.</span><br />
