Sri Lanka: General election likely in late April

<span style="color: #222222;">In Sri Lanka, Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya has said, the General election could be held at the end of April next year if Parliament is dissolved at the beginning of March.<br />'' <br />'' He told a media conference that the elections can be held on either 25, 26 or 27 April if Parliament is dissolved as the month of March commences.<br />'' <br />'' His comments came as President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has made it clear that he will hold the parliamentary elections at the earliest possible time.<br />'' <br />'' As per the constitution, the parliament can only be dissolved after the expiry of four and half years of its term which ends on March 2.<br />'' <br />'' A caretaker government under Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapksa has been sworn in till the elections after the victory of Mr. Gotabaya at the Presidential elections held last month.</span><br />''
