The process to release Indian fishermen continues in various magistrates' courts in Sri Lanka. 29 fishermen were freed by Trincomalee magistrate, while the process to issue release orders of 14 more is underway in Jaffna court. Earlier, 55 fishermen were freed by local courts of the country. Sri Lanka government had decided earlier this week to free 106 Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture.

It is understood that the fishermen will be repatriated later this week after all of them are released. The courts have however not released their boats. The fishermen were caught by Sri Lankan Navy on charges of violating the maritime boundary and poaching in Sri Lankan waters.
