In Sri Lanka, Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera has strongly criticised former President Mahinda Rajapaksa for misleading the public with inaccurate, inflammatory and erroneous statements. Responding to a media release issued by the former President titled 'Constitutional and legal reforms to destroy the nation', the Minister said it is a serious matter when a former head of state seeks to deliberately cause division in Sri Lankan society by misleading the public, especially after years of conflict in which all communities have suffered.<br/><br/>The Foreign Minister said, the erroneous claims made by Rajapaksa in his media releases hinge on the selective quotation and misreading of five key documents.<br/><br/>The Former President, in his statement, had said the government is trying to punish the armed forces for winning the war, devolving more and more power to the provinces until the central government ceases to be relevant and creating a favorable space for separatism.<br/><br/>Minister Samaraweera made it clear that the transitional justice mechanisms to be implemented will benefit every community and will not single out and target the armed forces.
