In Sri Lanka, Minister of Local Government and Provincial Councils Faizer Mustapha has refused to accept the report of the delimitation committee thus inviting criticism from opposition parties and NGOs. <br/><br/>The minister refused to accept the report on grounds that it was not signed by two of its five members. The committee was set up to review the demarcation of electoral boundaries in local government wards and its report has been over delayed resulting in postponement of local body elections.<br/><br/>Local election monitors recently charged that the government is deliberately delaying the local council elections and threatened to take legal action against them. Joint opposition members led by former President Mahinda Rajapakse has alleged that government is delaying the elections as it is afraid of losing it. <br/>'<br/>Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is to meet party leaders next week to discuss the Delimitation Committee report. The meeting will look to reach a consensus among political parties as many are opposed to the exercise.
