Sri Lanka EC Dissanayake expresses desire to retire from his post

<br/>Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake on Wednesday expressed desire to retire from his post within the next few days after finishing the uncompleted work. He said that the stress of the job was taking a heavy toll on his health.<br/><br/>Addressing a news conference in Colombo last evening, the Commissioner after announcing the results of the sixth Presidential election said that after serving for eight years as the Elections Commissioner under trying circumstances the time had come for him to call it a day.<br/><br/>He also said he found it very difficult to perform his duties as the Elections Commissioner under the prevailing situation.<br/><br/>The Elections Commissioner said that he tried his level best to ensure the polls were conducted in a free and fair manner but said that it had been largely out of his control to manage, especially in areas like Puttalam, Anuradhapura and Matale.<br/>
