Sri Lanka: Death toll due to garbage dump rises to 29; 30 still missing

In Sri Lanka, the death toll due to collapse of garbage dump in capital Colombo has risen up to 29 even as at least 30 are still missing. Rescue efforts are continuing as hope for finding survivors are fading. <br/><br/>The 91-metre-high garbage dump collapsed on Friday and swamped the homes below. At least 145 houses have been damaged and 180 families affected.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, government has announced compensation of one lakh rupees to the kin of deceased while upto 25 lakh rupees each will be released for damage to houses. President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed the authorities to ensure financial resources are not an obstacle in the relief operation.<br/>
