Sri Lanka is celebrating Buddha Purnima or Vesak day with full vigour and gaiety as the country is organizing 14th UN Vesak day celebrations where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest. This is the first time that Sri Lanka is organizing the three day conference from Friday and capital Colombo has been decorated with festive look. <br/><br/>Mr. Modi will be the chief guest at the inaugural function during his one day visit to Sri Lanka. Country's minister for Buddha religious affairs Wijedasa Rajapakse told AIR that the day they were able to get hosting rights of the conference, they had decided that PM Narendra Modi should be invited to inaugurate the occasion. The minister said that Buddhism came to Sri Lanka from India and erstwhile kings of the island nation had their roots in India. <br/><br/>Apart from delivering the inaugural address at the function, PM Modi is also scheduled to inaugurate a hospital project funded by India and address a public meeting of Tamils of Indian origin.
