In Sri Lanka, a three-member cabinet subcommittee appointed by the President Maithripala Sirisena to investigate the cause of countrywide fuel shortage early this month has blamed state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) for the crisis. The committee in its report submitted today said that CPC officials knew of the impending crisis but did not take any measures to maintain the existing stocks. <br/><br/>The findings assume significance as CPC along with Petroleum minister has blamed Lanka IOC, a subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for the crisis. The committee said Sri Lanka has a storage capacity for nearly 120,000 Metric Tons (MT) of fuel when the daily requirement is only 2,000 MT but the CPC had ignored all systemized inventories and has not maintained the stocks at their facilities. <br/><br/>The committee recommended that further investigations should be carried out to investigate into any motive behind the crisis. Sri Lanka faced a week-long fuel shortage across the country at beginning of this month.
