Sri Lanka: Bonds issue probe panel to urge PM Wickremesinghe to give evidence

In Sri Lanka, the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate into treasury bonds issue, has decided to request Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to give evidence before the commission. <br/><br/>Chairman of the commission Justice K.T. Chithrasiri said today that the date on which the Premier will be summoned will be decided and announced in due course. <br/><br/>Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had previously stated that he is prepared to appear before the Commission for any clarifications that need to be made. <br/><br/>His office had said in a statement that the Premier will have no objections in appearing following the mention of his name by persons produced before the Bond Commission. <br/><br/>The commission is enquiring into leaking of inside information from central bank during bonds auction which led to loss of billions to exchequer and profit to a private entity close to then central bank governor.
