Sri Lanka arrests seven TN fishermen; CM Jaya writes to PM Modi

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has written a letter today to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging the immediate release of seven apprehended by Sri Lankan Navy. She requested the Prime Minister to direct External Affairs Ministry officials to take diplomatic measures to ensure the release of 89 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka. <br/><br/>Sri Lankan Navy apprehended seven fishermen from Rameswaram Tamil Nadu for crossing the international maritime boundary line. The fishermen from Tamil Nadu had resumed fishing after 45 days fishing ban for fish species propagation. There is tension in fishermen hamlets that their fellow fishermen are being attacked by Sri Lankan Navy. <br/><br/>The local fishermen urge the immediate release of seven fellow fishermen arrested by Sri Lankan Navy. The fishermen urge the government to secure the release of 89 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka as their livelihood is badly affected. The distance between Tamil Nadu and Lankan waters are only a few kilometers that fishermen often cross the international maritime boundary line for a better fish catch.
