Sri Lanka arrests 14 Indian fishermen

Sri Lankan Coast Guard with the assistance of Sri Lankan Navy arrested 14 Indian fishermen near the Delft Island in early this morning. Speaking to All India Radio, Navy Spokesman Captain Akram Alavi said that 3 Indian fishing vessels were caught today for violating International Maritime Boundary and poaching in Sri Lankan waters.<br/><br/>He said that the arrested fishermen have been taken to Kankesanthurai and are being handed over to Fisheries Department officials for further legal action. Sri Lanka had recently released 126 Indian fishermen as a goodwill gesture on Deepawali. India had also released 37 Sri Lankan fishermen from its custody as a reciprocal measure.
