Sri Lanka: 69th Republic Day celebrations in Colombo

The Indian community in Sri Lanka had gathered in large numbers to celebrate the 69th Republic Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. <br/><br/>The main function was held at India House in Colombo where High Commissioner Mr Taranjeet Singh Sandhu unfurled the tricolor followed by the singing of the national anthem. A contingent of Border Security Force turned out in their ceremonial dress to stage march past and salute the national flag.<br/><br/>The High Commissioner read out the message from the President of India. In his remarks, he mentioned the strong relations between India and Sri Lanka and the deepening bonds between the two countries. Artists of the Indian Cultural Centre presented a programme of traditional Indian dance and music.<br/><br/>Later the officials of the Indian High Commission paid floral tribute at the Indian Peace Keeping Force memorial for the soldiers who had laid down their lives during the Sri Lankan Civil War.
