Sri Lanka: 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev celebrated

In Sri Lanka, the Consulate General of India in Jaffna commemorated the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, with its building being decorated with colourful lights Monday evening. <br />''<br />''Consul General Balachandran addressed the participants. This was followed by a screening of two documentaries on the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India and Sikhism and a gifting of a set of books on Sikhism, which was received by Suganthiny Srimuralidharan, Dean, Hindu Studies, University of Jaffna and Bamini Guruchandran, Chief Librarian, Vavuniya Public Library. <br />''<br />''In keeping with Sikhism's core principles of service to mankind, a langar (community service of food) and a gifting of musical instruments are being organized at Mahadevaswamy's Children Home, Kilinochchi today. <br />''<br />''<span style="color: #222222;">The High Commission of India in Colombo commemorated the special day with a talk, a documentary screening and soulful rendition of Kirtan/Ardas on Saturday.
