Sri Lanka: 4 Indian fishermen arrested for 'poaching' in country's territorial waters

Sri Lankan Navy arrested four Indian fishermen along with a boat last night on charges of poaching into their waters. A navy statement issued today said that the arrests were made north of point-pedro and the fishermen will be handed over to Jaffna fisheries department for further legal action. With the latest arrests, the total number of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody has gone up to 80. <br/><br/>It comes after a spate of arrests made last week in which 61 fishermen were arrested. Sri Lanka has been releasing Indian fishermen from time to time on humanitarian grounds but the boats are mostly retained.<br/>Fishing issue has been a lingering problem between the two countries and both sides have formed a Joint Working Group to discuss the issue.
