In Sri Lanka, the first phase of the newly developed high speed railway line between Galle and Matara will be opened on Wednesday. The railway line has been renovated in order to run the trains at a speed of 100 kilometres per hour. The programme to develop the coastal line from Matara to Maradana was launched under the Indian financial assistance. It will be declared open under the patronage of Sri Lanka Minister Kumara Welgama and Indian high commissioner to Sri Lanka at a ceremony to be held at Galle railway station.
