Indian Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and veteran cricketer Arun Lal were not surprised at the conviction of Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammed Asif, on charges of spot-fixing. At a function in New Delhi on Tuesday, Skipper MS Dhoni said that it is the worst thing one can do while representing the country. Meanwhile, former India cricketer Arun Lal said that the verdict is an opportunity to cleanse the game. He said it is an opportunity for the ICC, Pakistan Cricket Board, Indian Cricket Board and others to put an end to this menace. Dismayed by the conviction, Pakistan's former players said that the verdict marks a sad day for the game in the country but the two players got what they deserved. The 12-man jury at the Southwark Crown Court yesterday found former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, guilty of conspiracy to accept corrupt payments and conspiracy to cheat, while bowler Mohammed Asif, was convicted for the charge of conspiracy to cheat. The third accused, 19-year-old bowler Mohammad Aamir, who was also involved, did not face trial as he had earlier pleaded guilty. The cricketers are however out on bail, till the quantum of their punishment is announced.
