Spot-fixing: BCCI convenes emergency meeting in Chennai tomorrow

An emergency meeting of the Working Committee of the BCCI is being convened at Chennai tomorrow. The meeting will take place in the wake of IPL spot-fixing controversy amidst demands for the resignation of the BCCI President N Srinivasan for the alleged involvement of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan in the betting scandal.

The development came after more board officials have threatened to quit following the resignations of two senior BCCI functionaries. IPL Chairman and Union Minister Rajiv Shukla has confirmed that Mr Srinivasan has convened the emergency meeting.

AIR Correspondent reports pressure has been mounting on the BCCI President to quit the BCCI's top post following the arrest of his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan of the Chennai Super King on charges of betting during the IPL.

Mr. N.Srinivasan has been refusing to step down from the present post on thr plea that none of the 30- members in the executive has demanded his resignation.

He also said he has done nothing wrong and blame the media for hounding him. Earlier, talking to reporters in New Delhi, BCCI's Vice President Arun Jaitley hinted the next 24 hours could bring about a significant development in the unfolding drama. He is one of the five Vice Presidents of the Board.

BCCI Joint Secretary Anurag Thakur said, BCCI could be forced to prepone its Emergency Working Committee meeting due to the crisis created by the resignation of two senior Board functionaries.

He said, the Board President has been requested to prepone the meeting and discuss the issues in a fair and transparent manner as soon as possible. Asked if he would put in his papers, Mr. Thakur was evasive. He reiterated that Srinivasan should resign in the interest of fairness.
