The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Vijay Goel has said that sports should be made a compulsory subject at the school level to impart the desired importance to sports. He also said that marks should be given to students for their involvement in sports activities. Addressing the 64th meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education in New Delhi today, he said inclusion of sports as a subject in school curriculum is also essential to deal with the growing incidence of diabetes and other non-communicable diseases among children. Mr. Goel emphasized that every educational institution should have access to a play field and basic sports facilities. He said standard guidelines should also be framed and issued for admission under sports quota, relaxation to sports persons from attendance and appearance in examinations.
