Sports Ministry has written to the Prime Minister's office, requesting Bharat Ratna for hockey legend late Dhyan Chand. <br/><br/>Talking to reporters in New Delhi today, Sports Minister Vijay Goel said, conferring the honour posthumously to Dhyan Chand will be a fitting tribute to his exceptional service to the country. Mr Goel said, his Ministry feels that Bharat Ratna to Dhyan Chand will not only give a huge boost to Indian hockey but also to other sports. <br/><br/>Dhyan Chand, who's an inspiration for sports lovers, has helped the country to win three gold medals at the Olympics. He is considered as one of the greatest hockey players of all time and single handedly popularised Hockey in India. On 29th of August, Dhyan Chand birthday, is celebrated as the National Sports Day when the country's top athletes are awarded by the President of India.
