Unfazed by the ban threat from the International Olympic Council, the sports ministry today said that it will go ahead with the draft bill which puts a limit on the age and tenure of national federation heads. Sports Minister Ajay Maken said that the government has taken into account IOC's objections to the age and tenure limitation guidelines but will place the bill before the Parliament in July. The Minister told reporters at his customary monthly press conference in New Delhi that IOC has written a letter and the Minister has taken account of the IOC's letter. Maken said that the Committee constituted under the chairmanship of retired High Court chief justice Mukul Mudgal in its first meeting has decided that they should have open house meetings at the different regions of the country. It was also suggested that on May 2 all National Sports Federations must interact with this committee. The Committee has members including former badminton ace Prakash Padukone and former athlete Ashwini Nachappa, a representative from the IOA and sports ministry joint secretary. The IOC had warned of "appropriate measures" against India in its next executive board meeting in July if the country's sports ministry goes ahead with the legislation, which puts a limit on the age and tenure of federation heads.
