The sports ministry has spent about nine and half crore rupees from the National Sports Development Fund since its inception in 1998, on training of sportspersons for infrastructure development and for organising various competitions. The sum includes the amount of money spent on the training of 30 sportspersons last year including India's lone individual Olympic gold medallist shooter Abhinav Bindra on whom 13 lakh 12 thousand 355 rupees was spent by the sports ministry.Among Others who trained under the sports ministry's financial assistance last year were shooters Manavjit Singh and Ronjan Sodhi, tennis players Somdev Devvarman, Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna, and Mahesh Bhupathi, shuttler Anup Sridhar, athletes Om Prakash Singh Karhana, Krishna Poonia, Vikas Gowda and Sudha Singh.
