Split in Tamil Nadu Congress: G.K.Vasan quits party, To float new party

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister G.K.Vasan has quit the party. Talking to reporters in Chennai today, Mr.Vasan today that he will float a new party in a day or two. Mr. Vasan said that he is not satisfied with the functioning of the party at the regional level.
It is to be noted that Mr.Vasan’s father G.K.Moopanar had launched the Tamil Maanila Congress after the death of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi objecting to the decision on political alliance taken by former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao. Narasimha Rao had taken a decision to make an alliance with the AIADMK party which swept the assembly polls in 1991 after which the party was never able to regain to its original position in the state politics.
