In Punjab, splinter groups of Akali Dal have decided to contest the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak committee elections under the banner of Panthak Morcha and 'Truck' as its election symbol. In a meeting at Chandigarh, Shiroamni Akali Dal 1920, Shiromani Akali Dal Longowal, shiromani Akali Dal Delhi, Shiromani Akali Dal Amritsar, Adhoc SGPC of Haryana and groups of AISSF, Shiromani Akali Dal Panch Pardhani have decided to field a common candidate to face ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, while AISSF Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad have decided to contest on its own.On the other hand, patron of ruling Shiromani Akali Dal Parkash Singh Badal has said that candidates will be declared soon as core committee of party has given responsibility to choose candidates to him and party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.Nominations for SGPC will start from 4th of August and election will be held on 18th September.
